SONIA BORELLA

SONIA BORELLA is an experienced Producer, Executive Producer, Executive Consultant and Entertainment and Corporate Lawyer. She has been working in the film and television industry for over 25 years. Initially as an Entertainment and Corporate Lawyer, where she was a Partner of national law firm Holding Redlich and Chair of the firm’s national Media, Entertainment and Technology Group, and lead advisor on major Australian and international television series and feature films. Subsequently as a Producer, Executive Producer and Executive Consultant. Credits include: George Miller’s FURIOSA: A MAD MAX SAGA with Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth, and THREE THOUSAND YEARS OF LONGING with Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba; Gracie Otto’s SERIOUSLY RED with Krew Boylan, Rose Byrne and Bobby Cannavale; Josh Lawson’s LONG STORY SHORT with Rafe Spall; JUNE AGAIN with Noni Hazlehurst and Claudia Karvan; and GO! aka GO KARTS with Richard Roxburgh, Frances O’Connor and William Lodder. Most recently she was an Executive Producer of Lucy McKendrick’s FANGS with Joel Edgerton and Toni Collette, to be released in 2026. Sonia has extensive experience in finance structuring; accessing and maximising Australian Federal and State screen incentives, including through co-production; advising on, devising and closing out finance plans and distribution strategies; and problem-solving and crisis management in the financing, production and delivery phases of a project. Sonia has been a key contributor to various industry and policy reforms and initiatives, including around Australia’s official co-production program and screen incentives and, most recently, around stimulating private investment in Australian projects.
